The ocean is a mysterious place, and no human has seen everything under there. Even to this day, new creatures and new parts of the ocean are being discovered. Most of the discoveries have so far been amusing, but there are some that shock you to your core.
We have put together a list of spine chilling images captured in the ocean that is sure to mess up your sleep tonight. Reading this makes you think what else the ocean is hiding from us.
A Manta Ray That Extends Beyond Your Periphery Vision
We are going to go easy on you with the first one on the list. The earth is covered in more water than land. If scientists can discover new things on earth every day, you can imagine what the ocean holds. If you try and google the depth of the ocean, you will be truly shocked.
Looking at this picture closely, you will see a manta ray. But in comparison to the size of the person, it looks humongous. The person pictured claimed that the sight of this Manta ray was horrifying and scary.
Jaws has shown us enough scenarios of how we can get attacked in the ocean. But still, many people enjoy kayaking in the open winds. After all, the sight is pleasant and lovely. The turquoise blue ocean and the tiny fish swimming below you can be relaxing.
This picture is every person's nightmare. We are sure that this unsuspecting person has no idea that a shark is tailing him. We hope that the person clicking this image was kind enough to warn the man.
The bottomless pit
We are not sure how deep the ocean is. When a person sets out to swim in an unknown land, we need to make sure that he/she is well equipped to face anything. But it looks like this person is in for something big.
This bottomless pit has the potential to suck her inside within a second. And she does not look well equipped to survive this. Her attire is suitable for a casual swim and nothing more. This image is surely going to haunt us forever.
Snorkeling Adventure can turn dark
Next time you are snorkeling, make sure you are not on the deeper side of the ocean. It can expose you to some truly dark stuff that will not allow you to sleep at night. Imagine you see this great white shark on your next trip?
No one would have believed this man if this picture was not taken. This shark that appeared out of nowhere was probably thinking of hunting him down for his next meal. The fact that we see this image tells us that he is alive.
Creepy Eel disguised as sea-grass
The thought of a snake slithering down on the cold grass is enough to have us running. And an eel is like a snake underwater. The way they effortlessly move around with twists and turns make us want to recoil in fear.
These eels are pretending to be sea-grass for some reason, and we have no idea why! But if you still think this is not creepy enough, know that an average eel can reach up to 55 pounds and up to seven feet. Why we even live on this planet is a question.
Grim reaper says so
I wonder why human nature attracts you to go to places that are forbidden. For example, if a place is marked haunted, people's curiosity pulls them to enter and see the location for themselves. The same goes for deep-sea diving. It can be a dangerous activity if you do not have the training and the right equipment. This sign in front of a cave warns people not to go beyond this point.
What do they think they are going to discover in this cave? This cave has already taken the lives of more than 300 people, including professional divers. We wonder what is there in this cave that is taking the life of all these people.
The cage is no good
People who have told you that shark cage diving is safe and fun, please show this image to them! When people get displeased with life, they turn to other things that are fun and give them that adrenaline rush. This is where nature strikes back.
This Great White Shark was too hungry to let a simple cage stop him. Think twice before getting yourself into such adventures. It all comes down to the hunger and determination of the shark.
One of the largest animal on earth
Can you imagine coming face to face with a beast like this? The humpback whale can grow up to 50 feet and up to 40 tons. You read that right; it is that big.
If you are near the tail end of this beast and it knocks you even by mistake, you can accept that this is the end for you. If you want death to knock on your doors, you can gladly stand in front of him to accept your fate.
Shadows don't lie
Are those creepy eels back? At first look, it seems like the ocean has swallowed a large monitor. Have you ever had the feeling where you are enjoying your time on the beach and jumped at the slightest contact with something slimy? Many people have a fear of discovering something scary in the water because of the mysteries it holds.
Can you imagine your feet touching this scary-looking algae-covered sea-weed? It is not scary if you think about it, but yikes, I would not want to come across this in real life.
The mysterious spot
The curiosity to see what is there in the darkness is the nature of a human. We cannot stop them from exploring the deep caves. These deep spots look like they might be harmless, but they are far from that.
Agreed that other deepwater spots around the world are not harmless, but this one has taken the life of at least eight people. This particular cave is estimated to be around 4500 feet deep. So if you are going diving in this spot, think twice and be prepared for the worst.
A centipede of the ocean
We are crept enough by the million legged centipedes that crawl on the land. We have no intention of catching this monstrous creature inside the water as well. While finishing, you can expect to catch all sorts of fish.
But catching something like this is true horror. But this person who has caught it looks happy to have captured something so amazing. But do you think he will take it back home and cook it? We sure hope they are not!
A nightmare on tentacle street
If the tentacle is of this size, we can only imagine the size of the entire animal! If you ever thought looking at the bird's eye view of something is always good, think twice. Pictures like these can potentially disturb your sleep for days.
Other city rivers are generally filled with pollution, but this one seems to be clear with a hint of Sea-monster. Next time you are headed out on a romantic and relaxing boat ride in the river, think twice and keep a lot out for large tentacles!
Lurking in the shadows
If you have ever seen surfing, you know well about the joy of being one with the wind. The rush on moving fast with the wave and landing on the shore is nothing short of an adrenaline rush.
It is because of this rush that surfers forget the possibility of being eaten by the ocean. But we can guarantee that this surfer is not going to return to this beach ever again. The shadow of this large shark lurking in the waves along with a surfer in Nigeria is timed perfectly. We hope the man is still alive and surfing in safer waters!
A real vampire
We all have read and watched Twilight multiple times and lived the fantasy life of a vampire. What if vampires are there in real life? We cannot tell you that for sure, but we can tell you one thing, vampire squids are for real!
To add to the creepiness of this creature, they are only found in the deep sea. The deep-sea is very dark and black, so you would not even realize this creature is lurking next to you! But there is good news, even if you ever encounter it, the chances are that it won't harm you or drink your blood!
This man would have died of a heart attack faster than a shark attack if he ever spotted this huge shark beneath him. Thankfully, he realized a shark was tailing him after he made it back to the shore.
Some people may even assume that this picture might be photoshopped, but this picture is very real. National Geographic published this photo in one of their magazines. The shark seems to be almost thrice the size of the kayak. If it wanted, it could have knocked him down and eaten the man in an instance.
The mother of everything
There is no point in time where technology will be more powerful than nature. If you stay near the ocean, this image can be more than a nightmare. By the slightest shift in the tectonic plates of the ocean, we can get swallowed into the ocean.
The tsunami you see here could be the reason for thousands of homes getting destroyed. Natural disasters like this can remind you of how we need to be humble in front of nature.
The ocean does not favor celebrities
Even if you are a trained professional, when it comes to being cautious about the ocean, everyone needs to stay on top of it. In this picture, you can see Mick Fanning, a Former Australian World Champion surfer.
Even a celebrity and champion surfer is not spared by this shark! It was the first time he had ever come across a shark during his surfing competitions. But being trained has its advantages. He was able to escape without a single scratch during the J-Bay Open in South Africa in 2015.
We think that the sharks have a competition to photobomb pictures of humans surfing! You must have already come across more than two instances of sharks trying to attack surfers. There is a reason why sharks target surfers.
Is it because they took delicious in their wet suit? Well, the truth is that the shape of the surfing board and the wet suit pattern resembles that of a seal. And sharks have one weakness that they love attacking. You guessed it right, seals. Even though the shark in this picture is tiny, it has the potential to kill a human.
The pit of death
Sometimes, we cannot help but think about the theories of flat earth when we come across pictures like this. Standing at the edge of the beach and staring off into the eternity of the ocean can be relaxing. But what if the end of every beach leads to a scary pit like this?
For all, we know it could be an optical illusion of a deep spot in the ocean, but you can not help but think what kind of mystery spot this is. Is it probably the ariel view of the Bermuda Triangle? We have no idea how the Bermuda Triangle looks, but if anything, it would look a lot like this pit of mystery.
The almost extinct blobfish
Think twice before you stand in front of the mirror and accuse God of giving you a long nose or short height. Well, if you are still not able to convince yourself that you are perfect just the way you are, thank your stars that you are not a blobfish. This bizarre creature lives on the floor of the ocean.
It cannot cause much harm to you, but the thought of this staring into your eyes is horrifying! The slimy and melting face is almost extinct, with around 420 left on earth.
The family trip went wrong
We cannot imagine a better family bonding activity than a family trip on the boat! The fresh air, the wind flowing through your hair, and every single color around you can make you believe in magic again. But don't make the mistake of looking down into the waters.
You may see tiny and adorable fish most of the time, but there are chances that you may see a great white shark and its sharp teeth charging at you! If you can see the shark this up close near your boat, consider yourself gone!
Mother nature, in all of its anger
If you try to think back, natural disasters have taken the lives of many and destroyed homes. But there is nothing you can do when mother nature wants to let out her anger! After all, we are taking advantage of her silence and destroying the very thing that holds us.
This picture is a tiny image of how powerful a tsunami can be. It was taken in 2004 when Thailand was almost wiped with an earthquake reaching a magnitude of 9.1.
Taking away the dead
Here are more examples of how unforgiving the ocean can be. It is not going to wait around for anyone. When it wants to destroy, it will destroy. In this image, you can see the tidal waves hitting land a few moments before it hit Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetry in 2018.
The people who were at peace in this cemetery were no more in peace and were washed away into the ocean. Thankfully this 30-feet tide did not take any lives apart from the ones of the dead.
Ripping the ocean apart
We can never imagine anyone going so close to something so terrifying! We can see how the wrath of mother nature can be from the waters. But sadly, this is not the only way she can show us her anger.
This hurricane ripped the entire ocean apart and caused tides more than 40-feet high! If you are wondering where this image was taken, it occurred coast of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We hope no one was hurt trying to snap this image.
When was the last time you saw a jellyfish? Guesses are that you must have seen it washed up on the shore, and you accidentally stepped on it? Worst yet, one stung you while you were enjoying your time on the beach. Sometimes you have to envy the life of a scuba diver for this very reason.
Maybe envy is a bit of a stretch, and we need to feel terrified for the man who encountered such a large jellyfish! We are wondering how far his partner had to go to click this image.
Mysteries of the water
Divers make the underwater look so awesome and attractive. The truth is that to get 30 minute's worth of footage, they end up taking years of training to stay underwater. But this image can snap you back into reality and give you a perspective on how vast the ocean is.
There are more mysteries in the water than one can ever imagine. The picture may look mesmerizing at first but imagine if you got lost in some caves underwater. That can be somewhat of a life-threatening situation!
Death by husband
There is a lot of mystery in this picture. Did these scuba divers find the dead body of another scuba diver? Were they a part of the crew? What happened? In reality, it was a murder. If you ever go scuba diving, think twice about your company and how dangerous the place is.
This Australian husband decided to kill his wife near the Great barrier reef only eleven days after they wed. Even though he is an experienced scuba diver trained in emergencies, he made no attempts to save her.
It is common to see statues to whichever country we go to. In most cases, the statues will present famous figures from history or religion-related art. But which man went underwater to construct this masterpiece?
isguiMoreover, it looks like this statue is asking us for a way out of the water. Many divers who come here often get shocked to see the algae-filled statue. Probably this area used to be land earlier, and the ocean decided to swallow it. Creepy right?
Finding Nemo is coming true!
Chances are, if you have seen Finding Nemo, you will be able to tell that this creature looks exactly like the scary fish you saw on screen! We never even wanted to know that this creature exists in real life.
But you can take a deep breath because you will find this creature only in the deepest of seas. They use the scary antenna-like structure to attract their prey and eat it up. We hope to never see this fish in real life, no matter what.
Mermaid? Is that you?
Are mermaids a glorified way of teaching children that this demonic creature exists in the water? We may have given a lot of thought about what more is there in outer space, but the ocean is enough to remind us that there is a lot more that we cannot even comprehend.
This scary creature washed up on the shores and made everyone run for their lives. We cannot tell what kind of creature has a human-like skull and a fish-like body!
Beware, found near shore
All these creepy creatures we saw so far are not closer to where the land is. But if you think the shore is much safer, have a good look at this image. We do not want to know what this fish can do with such a large face and a huge mouth.
A fisherman caught this fish very close to the shore, and he was amused by his fascinating find. This fish looks almost prehistoric, and we hope it gets extinct soon!
Stay calm; it may save your life
Sometimes remaining calm is the only way out of a situation. The more scared we get, the higher the chances are to fall prey to our demise! Thankfully, this man in the kayak was as calm as a clam when he saw this whale visit him.
He stayed still till the whale circled him and went away. However, we cannot guarantee that staying calm can always help in situations like this! This friendly visit got accepted with a smile by this man.
Jumping into the abyss
This picture makes us feel immediately in threat and danger. We have no idea what prompted this man to jump into this dark abyss! As they say, if you can't beat them, join them!
But we never meant for divers to take this so literally and jump into something so scary! A german philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once spoke about resisting yourself from becoming a monster while fighting one. It almost looks like he is sacrificing himself to the sea. Hoping he made it back safe on land.
Freediving, don't do it!
Testing the depths of the ocean without an oxygen tank is nothing less than being released into a room full of ferocious snakes. The activity of free diving has been popular in the modern-day.
As the depth of the sea is reducing more and more closer to land, we see that more people are pushing themselves closer to the water bed. Trailing off without knowing where it leads to or moving deeper without oxygen can be extremely dangerous. This picture is enough to bring perspective.
Cute and adorable seals
Seals on land can look like water pandas. They are resting around all day and love playing with each other. But do remember that they are still wild predators.
They may not attack humans on land, but they are ferocious underwater! We hope you never see the seal in this unfortunate angle. The mean look in its eye and its razor-sharp teeth can be a scary predator for other small fish who swim in those waters.
Something larger than the whale?
As far as we know, the great white whale is the largest animal on earth. But what monstrosity is present in this picture that we are unaware of? If you want to understand how small and insignificant we are in this universe, you can see this picture.
The person who is running the boat had no idea about this large animal underneath him. We wonder who thought of taking an ariel view of this place. Did they already know about this sea monster?
Humans are not the main hit list for the great white sharks. But it still looks like this person is taking the risk of a lifetime to get this picture taken. It even looks like this shark is striking a pose for the picture.
Sharks have been known for killing humans for entering their territory and trespassing. By the looks of it, there are multiple divers here. We have to hand out a bravery award to the person who was willing to take this picture.
Protecting its baby
Whales have not been recorded in the past for attacking humans. They are adorable and sometimes even friendly with humans. Even though they are the largest animals on earth, they spare us the mercy of letting us live.
But if you put their kids in danger, you better strap on your road runner shoes. This picture was snapped at the exact time a whale jumped out of the waters to protect its baby to tail the person who stole its baby.
Chocked to death
Octopus are not ones to self-attack without any reason. They try and defend themselves most of the time when attacked. They either squirt ink, or they grab on to you with tentacles. But if you ever encounter an octopus so large, we hope you steed clear out of its way.
With the power to choke you to death in an instant, it's advisable not to stop like this diver and take pictures for the gram. It also looks like the diver is too close to the octopus and gripping it from the back.
Want your face to get bitten?
So far, all the divers who tried messing with the life inside water got out safe. But no one talks about the aftermath of disturbing the marine life. This businessman learned the hard way that he should not go too close to the fish underwater.
Especially if they are capable of biting off his face along with the gear he was wearing. This eel gave him a lesson of a lifetime, but thankfully, he was able to get out alive with a leak in the tank.
Most sea creatures will let you be if you silently pass by without trying to get too close. But have a good look at this creature! The monkfish is famously known for being an aggressive creature. If it sees any new creature in the waters, you are sure to end up in its stomach.
And if you think they are small in size, they can grow up to five feet long. And their stomach capacity is as much as their body weight. In short, stay away from this slimy creature.
The cherry on the top
To add the cherry to your nightmares for today night, we have the last image of this creature that lurks in the deep seas. In this case, the horn and teeth can stay far away from your reality. But to even think that something so scary exists is unimaginable.
We hope after going through this gallery of water-related nightmares, you develop respect for the sea and let things be the way they are. The more you try and investigate, the more petrified you are bound to be!
